Tom Brady has had a roller coaster offseason. Brady went from being the subject of a legal battle, to suspended from the NFL for the first four weeks, to being named an honorary captain for the Michigan Wolverines.

Brady is, of course, one of the university’s biggest athletic success stories. The passer played on Michigan’s football team from 1995-1999. So it does make sense that the football team would reach out to one of its former players to serve as a captain. It also seems that Michigan is subtly stating that they are behind Brady in regards to the Deflategate scandal.

The New England Patriots legendary quarterback will serve in his role during Michigan’s week three game against Colorado. The game will be played in Ann Arbor, Michigan.

It is interesting to note that Michigan’s head coach is Jim Harbaugh, who used to coach in the NFL. Coach Harbaugh’s brother John is the current coach of the Baltimore Ravens. When Deflategate story was breaking, rumors swirled that the Ravens had tipped off the Indianapolis Colts about the Patriots’ use of deflated game ball. So Deflategate/conspiracy theory enthusiasts will certainly have plenty to speculate about in the months leading up this game.

However, a press release by the Ravens denies that the team knew about any cheating conducted by the Patriots and that the team did not “tip off” the Colts.

It appears that the Harbaugh brothers are fine with Brady, or else it is likely the controversial quarterback wouldn’t have been invited to serve the team during his suspension.

The NFL mandated suspension of Tom Brady will come to a close after the fourth week of the regular season. Brady’s first game back will be against the Cleveland Browns.
