The Ravens are apparently planning on cutting former Navy star Keenan Reynolds from their roster.

Keenan Reynolds got drafted by the Baltimore Ravens in the sixth round of the 2016 NFL Draft in April. His story had been one of the better ones coming into the selection show, as a fifth-place finisher in the Heisman after a record-breaking career at Navy.

However, Reynolds had to make an adjustment for the NFL. The Ravens selected him as a wide receiver, and not at the quarterback position he played in college. He the summer to learn the position, along with four preseason games for live action.

It doesn’t seem that Reynolds will be making the Ravens roster for the 2016 season, though. This is according to NFL.com. They plan on waiving him.

While the report doesn’t mention this, it’s possible Baltimore could look to waive and then add Reynolds to their practice squad. He could take the 2016 season to develop as a wide receiver, and rejoin the team in 2017 to work his way up the depth chart. Given that Reynolds is just 21-years-old, and will be for most of the season, letting him sit and learn could be valuable.

Reynolds most recently played in the Ravens’ fourth preseason game, catching just one pass for two yards. This had been his first and only reception of the season. With players like Mike Wallace and Steve Smith, among others, ahead of him, the former Navy star would have had a long road to playing time. If Smith retires after the 2016 season, though, maybe there could be a better chance at playing time, if the Ravens decide to keep Reynolds.

If Reynolds is let go, he could be taken for someone’s practice squad or wide receiver depth. There could be potential there as a wide receiver in the NFL, which a team may take the risk on.
