Alabama defensive backs almost came to blows during a fight on the sideline between teammates

It’s never a pretty sight whenever college football players start fighting. You want to see these young men, even in most tense situations, keep their cool. However, the Alabama Crimson Tide were struggling with that in the second quarter against USC Trojans. What’s different is that the Alabama players weren’t fighting with their opponents. Instead, it was Crimson Tide teammates about to come to blows on the sideline.

While Nick Saban’s offense was on the field, everything seemed fine as they had the lead over USC. However, the cameras then cut to the sideline. And what was happening there was anything but a pleasant environment.

Defensive backs Ronnie Harrison and Deionte Thompson were in a shouting match over something. That shouting turned into a bit of pushing and getting into one another’s face. Subsequently, the two looked like they might start throwing fists. However, senior linebacker Reuben Foster stepped in to separate them. Harrison was so enraged, though, that he almost seemed to start trying to get at Foster as well. Needless to say, this was not something that’ll make Saban happy:

To be clear, it’s never a normal thing to see teammates fighting on the sideline. However, it’s particularly odd to see it in a game like this one. Not only was Alabama ahead when this scene occurred, but the defense had allowed only three points. What could they have been fighting about that got this serious.

In the aftermath, Saban came up and laid into both players separately. That’s the least surprising development of the whole situation, to be honest. Now you have to wonder if Saban will punish these guys in any way or if Harrison and Thompson will work out whatever it is that got them both heated.
