The 2017 NFL Draft was announced that it will be held in Philadelphia, read on to see what five cities would have made for a better host city.

The NFL draft is heading to Philadelphia. With the popularity of the NFL at an all-time high, cities around the US are clamoring to host the NFL draft. However, just like with the super bowl, only one lucky city can host the event each year.

For the past two seasons, the NFL has held its draft in Chicago. By holding the draft in the Windy City, the NFL had made a landmark decision, as the league has held its draft in New York City since 1956. Going forward, it was expected that the league would move the draft to other cities as well. Places like Los Angeles, Philadelphia, and Miami were expected to be at the top of the list.

Now that Philadelphia is officially “draft central” this season, it’s time to decide whether picking the City of Brotherly Love was the best idea of the NFL.

No. 5: Miami, Florida

After having the draft held in two large northern cities, it seems time for the NFL to fly south for the draft. Selecting Miami as the host city seems like an obvious choice.

Unlike other parts of the country, Miami boasts immaculate weather almost all year round. The city is a haven for parties and celebrations. If the NFL had chosen Miami, the league could have marketed the draft as more of a celebration of the league and its newest family members and played right into the fun and free spirit that Miami holds in spades.

Another reason Miami would have been an excellent choice is to have a dry run in the city.  The past few seasons, the Dolphins have applied to host a super bowl. Every year it seemed the team’s proposal was rejected. Finally, this year, the NFL accepted the Dolphins proposal and will allow the franchise to host the super bowl in 2020. By allowing Miami to host the draft, the NFL would gain valuable experience working with the city’s government and entertainment venues.

Without a doubt, Miami is a gem of a city. If the draft is truly supposed to be about welcoming the next era of NFL players to the league, why not hold the draft in a city where the draftees want to be? Miami is a prime destination for spring breakers, and the NFL draftees are of the age where they still get a spring break. The NFL should have made the obvious choice and held the draft in the sleek, sexy, vibrant city that is Miami.
