DeShone Kizer and Malik Zaire are in an intense battle for the starting quarterback job of the Notre Dame Fighting Irish. Both guys have the talent to lead Notre Dame to the College Football Playoff, but Kizer might have the leg up because he started in 2015 and led the Irish to a 10-3 overall record.

Still, there will be a battle brewing to start the season as it looks like Kizer will start, but both quarterbacks will certainly be splitting snaps. The Fighting Irish are losing eight starters on the offensive side of the ball, though, including All-American candidate Will Fuller. The run game will be a toss-up as well without C.J. Prosise although Josh Adams is a rising sophomore.

As for Texas, likely leaning on true freshman Shane Buechele to start the first game of his college career agains the No. 10 team in the land is a scary thought. However, Buechele is talented enough to make the game interesting and if he does struggle, veterans like Tyrone Swoopes or Jerrod Heard can fill in.

Charlie Strong is looking to turn this program around and make it a perennial powerhouse again and a win versus Notre Dame would be a step in the right direction. The home crowd will be electric for this primetime season opener in Austin.
