Ole Miss Rebels quarterback Chad Kelly found wide receiver Van Jefferson for his fourth touchdown of the day against the Florida State Seminoles’ defense.

Down 39-28 to the Florida State Seminoles early in the fourth quarter, Ole Miss Rebels star quarterback Chad Kelly connected with wide receiver Van Jefferson for Kelly’s fourth touchdown pass of the night.

This was a 20-yarder to Jefferson near the left pylon. Despite Ole Miss letting a huge lead dissipate early in the third quarter, Kelly was poised in the pocket and made an NFL-worthy throw to where only Jefferson could make the grab.

Ole Miss has the playmakers in the passing game to hang tough in any shootout it finds itself in. The problem for the Rebels has been it constant defensive lapses on Florida State starting quarterback Deondre Francois got settled in during his first career start for the Seminoles.

Kelly is going to play on Sundays for some NFL team next season. Given that his uncle is pro football Hall of Famer Jim Kelly, this might elevate his draft stock to the back-end of the first round of the 2017 NFL Draft.

Pedigree may be on Kelly’s side, but he has the arm strength, the durability, and the poise in the pocket to maybe even be a franchise quarterback for some team in need. Clemson Tigers junior quarterback Deshaun Watson should be the first guy off the board, but Kelly is making a compelling case early in 2016 that he can make all the throws of an NFL quarterback.

Kelly might need to throw for a fifth, maybe even a sixth passing touchdown to secure a come-from-behind victory for the Rebels against an inspired Florida State team. Either way, Kelly had himself a fine ball game for Ole Miss in Week 1.
