The Florida State Seminoles matched up against the Ole Miss Rebels on Monday night, and there was a gruesome injury early on for the Rebels.

The final game of Week 1 of the college football slate is a good one, as the fourth-ranked Florida State Seminoles are facing the 11th-ranked Ole Miss Rebels. Florida State boasts one of the best running backs in America, and Ole Miss has a gunslinger at quarterback in Chad Kelly. The stage was set for a fantastic night of football.

Ole Miss got the scoring going early, as Kelly hit Damore’ea Stringfellow for the 3-yard TD on the Rebels opening drive. Florida State would get the ball back, and was starting to drive when disaster struck for the Rebels.

On a first-and-10, Florida State quarterback Deondre Francois dropped back to pass, faking the ball to star running back Dalvin Cook. That enabled Kermit Whitfield to get open deep, but Ole Miss defensive back Ken Webster jumped to break up the pass. He landed badly, and it looks like he did some serious damage to his leg.

Webster was expected to play a key role for the Rebels in 2016, though it now appears he will have to have some serious repairs done to his leg. The rest of the team will have to keep going in his absence, but without him in the secondary, Florida State may try to exploit that weakness. It is still early in the game, so Ole Miss has more than enough time to make adjustments.

Though no initial reports were available, the look on Webster’s face says it all. In sports, athletes know when they have done something bad to their body, and you could see the anguish as he was carted off the field.

For Webster, the play likely will end his season. We wish him all the best as he recovers from such a devastating injury.
