Here is a look at the key injuries leading into Week 2 of the college football season. Whether these players play or not will significantly impact their team.

Week 2 of the college football season does not have the kind of match-ups Week 1 did, but there is still a nice slate of games. In Week 1, there was a ton of shakeup in the rankings, as two top-5 teams went down. The schedule is a bit easier for the better teams in the country in Week 2, so they should be able to get back on track.

The biggest draw of the week will be the Battle at Bristol, where the 17th-ranked Tennessee Volunteers will take on the Virginia Tech Hokies. The game is slated to be played in front of 150,000 people, which would be a record attendance for college football.

Here is a look at some key players who may miss their Week 2 match-up.

Quarterbacks

Anu Solomon, Arizona: There is a good chance that Solomon misses the team’s home opener on Sunday, as he continues to nurse a knee injury. Solomon was shaky in Arizona’s opening loss to BYU, throwing two interceptions in the game. Arizona plays Grambling State on Saturday, so the team may be cautious with their starter.

Zack Greenlee, UTEP: Greenlee transferred from Fresno State to UTEP this past offseason, and was inserted as the team’s starter. However, he was beat up last week, and will miss the team’s game against Texas. He has a slight MCL tear, a separated shoulder, and a broken finger.

Skyler Howard, West Virginia: The senior ruled himself fit to play on Saturday, despite dealing with a nagging rib injury. Howard led West Virginia to a 26-11 win against Missouri in the team’s opener, and will be on the field when the Mountaineers face Youngstown State on Saturday.

Greg Ward Jr., Houston: The Cougars are coming off one of the biggest wins in school history, as they defeated third-ranked Oklahoma last week. Ward had a huge game, tossing for 321 yards and a touchdown. He continues to receive treatment on his shoulder, but is probable for the week 2 match-up against Lamar.

Running Backs

Leonard Fournette, LSU: The Heisman-hopeful running back from LSU had a decent game against Wisconsin in the opener, despite the Tigers losing 16-14. He rushed for 138 yards in the contest, but failed to reach the endzone. He has been battling an ankle injury, but appears probable for Saturday against Jacksonville State.

Sony Michel, Georgia: The Bulldogs are hoping to get Michel back on the field, as the running back is still coming back from an arm injury suffered in an accident on July 3. Michel was supposed to spell Nick Chubb at the position, but is listed as questionable for Saturday. Georgia plays Nicholls in week 2, so there is no rush to get him back this week.

Wide Receivers

Torii Hunter Jr, Notre Dame: The son of former big leaguer Torii Sr. will likely miss Notre Dame’s week 2 match-up against Nevada. Hunter sustained a huge hit during the third quarter of the Irish’s loss to Texas last week, and had to leave the game. He is still in concussion protocol, and the team is not likely to rush him back.

George Campbell, Florida State: The sophomore will see his 2016 season come to an end, as head coach Jimbo Fisher announced a groin injury will keep him out indefinitely. Campbell was supposed to play a big role for the Seminoles this season, but will now have to take a redshirt. He will be back for the 2017 campaign.

Tight Ends

Jake Roh, Boise State: The Boise State tight end is still trying to get back on the field, but is listed as questionable for the team’s week 2 game against Washington State. Roh was one of the better tight ends in the nation last season, but is still battling a leg injury. Alec Dhaenens performed well in his absence last week.

Johnny Mundt, Oregon: The Ducks will host Virginia on Saturday, but they may be without their star tight end. On Wednesday, Mundt was still wearing a kneebrace, and is questionable for Saturday. In Oregon’s 53-28 win over UC Davis in week 1, Mundt had three catches for 52 yards and a touchdown.

Be sure to check back prior to game-time to see who is suiting up and who will need another week on the shelf.
