Week 2 of the college football season is set to get underway and here are the five teams who could be on upset alert.
About to kick off the second weekend of college football, fans are hungry for more upsets. Week one was riddled with shocking defeats of top teams to unranked foes as well as FCS squads and mid-majors over Power Five squads.
The week began with an improbable overtime game between No. 9 Tennessee and Appalachian State. Everyone remembers when Appalachian State was still in the FCS and traveled to Ann Arbor to face the No. 5 Michigan Wolverines in 2007. The Mountaineers pulled off the biggest upset in college football history and nearly created another memory on Labor Day weekend.
Appalachian State ended up losing 20-13 in overtime, but it was a sign of things to come for the opening weekend of games.
There were some games that went undetected by casual fans as Northwestern fell to Western Michigan and Mississippi State went down at the hands of South Alabama, but there were also some that headlined the weekend.
Wisconsin over No. 5 LSU at Lambeau Field was one to remember, as was Texas defeating No. 10 Notre Dame in Austin, Texas. Both teams jumped into the AP Top 25 while Notre Dame and LSU dropped considerably.
What teams could be on upset alert this weekend despite the average slate of games? There may be no stellar matchup, but that doesn’t mean upsets won’t happen. Here are five potential teams that could be facing an upset in week two.
