DraftKings MLB Picks: Top Bargain plays for September 9th
Finding value is the ever so elusive, “Holy Grail” in Fantasy Baseball. Making cap room for pitchers and big bats can make all the difference in a lineup. With a little elbow grease in the research department, I’m hoping to offer a handful of players that could give critical salary relief for tonight’s DraftKings MLB picks.
Tonight’s slate features a full 15 games. The Nationals are currently projected to score 5.7 runs, giving them the highest team projection on the slate. The Pirates and the Giants come in next at 5 runs. As of now, the Pirates and the Mariners stand out as teams that are somewhat under priced. With Kershaw, Bumgarner, Fernandez, Lester, and Martinez all in play tonight, finding the right discount plays will be imperative. Here are my top recommended bargain players on DraftKings.
Next: Bargain Players

John Jaso – PIT (1B) – $3100
I talked about the Pirates projection tonight, and our boy John Jaso, could most certainly benefit from the match up. Jaso will face a righty tonight where he holds a .342 wOBA split. His position in the order will determine his value.
Michael Pineda – NYY (P) – $7400
There are quite a few high-priced pitching options tonight, but if you’re looking to save some salary, consider Michael Pineda against the Rays. While he’s had his fare share of ups and downs lately, he’s in a good spot tonight. Pineda currently has a K/9 rate of 10.068 and depending on the Ray’s lineup, he could see upwards of 8 or more strikeouts tonight.
Seth Smith – SEA (OF) – $3700
Seth Smith will draw a righty, Daniel Mengden. Seattle has a projected run total of 4.6 runs and if Smith is leading off, he would be a nice bet to return value. Smith is much better against righties, where he holds a .345 wOBA split.

Brandon Moss – STL (1B/OF) – $3900
Brandon Moss has been awful of late, but as I touched on before, we profit from finding opportunities where others don’t. Moss is in a great spot to break out of his slump, as he’ll face a righty and St. Louis is projected to score 4.9 runs. Moss fares much better against righties with a .370 wOBA split and a .310 ISO split. If you’re looking for power out of your value plays, Moss could be your guy as he ranks as one of the highest HR per at bats, with a rate of .064.
Tyler Naquin – CLE (OF) – $3400
Ideally, I’d like Naquin is ton more if he was batting in the top six of the order, but he’s still cheap enough that no matter where he’s hitting he should return value. Cleveland is projected to score 4.9 runs and Naquin will benefit from facing a righty.
Chris Heisey – WSH (OF) – $3400
Chris Heisey is another cheap player with legitimate power upside. Heisey has reverse splits, so facing the righty, Jake Thompson, should only help him. Heisey currently holds one of the highest HR per at bat rate, at .074. Given Washington’s team total, Heisey makes for an intriguing option in the outfield.
Other Players to Consider: Heredia, Orlando, Refsnyder, K. Marte, Bell, Joyce
Note: Keep in mind that recommended plays are based off of early information and will be subject to change as lineups are released. Some cheaper players are more suspect to be scratched from the lineup or bumped down the lineup order.
