According to a report, guard Lance Stephenson has agreed to a deal with the New Orleans Pelicans.

Training camp in the NBA is still a few weeks away, but there are some veterans that have yet to sign with a team. Some players that didn’t like the deals they were getting when free agency began will now start taking what they can so they can be on a roster next season. One player that had yet to agree to a deal before Friday, was guard Lance Stephenson.

Stephenson proved to be a valuable acquisition for the Memphis Grizzlies last season. He showed the tenacity that had made a name for him in the league with the Indiana Pacers and he proved he can be a good role player for a team. According to Sham Charania, Stephenson will be finding a new home with the New Orleans Pelicans.

The Pelicans are coming off of an absymal season and are hoping the young talent they’re trying to surround Anthony Davis with will help them take the next step. Adding a guy like Stephenson brings an edge to the Pelicans and he can fill multiple roles for a team. He should be able to get plenty of minutes in New Orleans as well.

It’s not easy being a Western Conference team, but if the Pelicans can get back to the team they were a couple of seasons ago, they might have a shot at the playoffs. Still, a lot of things have to fall into place for that to happen. Stephenson is a nice signing.
