Live mascots can be a glorious addition to a football game, except when they have to take care of business.

The Rice vs. Army game got off to a crappy start on Saturday morning when a mule donning an Army “A” on its rear strolled into the end zone and decided to do its business mid game.

The incident happened in between the first and second quarter, causing the game to be delayed for a couple of minutes while crews were trying to get it cleared up as soon as possible.

Army has seen its struggles the last six years, with their most successful season coming in 2014 where it went 4-8 so it only seems fitting that animal feces delayed the Black Knights while leading the Owls in the first half.

The Black Knights have had a winning record (7-6) only once since 1996.

Rice has struggled on the field recently as well, losing to Western Kentucky 46-14 in the season opener last weekend. They finished 5-7 last season but went 8-5 and 10-4 in 2014 and 2013, respectively.

Live animal mascots are always more fun and provide endless possibilities, like the one today. They keep you on your toes and let’s be real, are way more likeable than the sad attempts at people wearing animal costumes…hint Delta State University.

Some of the more famous live college mascots are Boomer and Sooner pulling the Schooner for Oklahoma, UGA X (grandson of famous UGA IX) of the Georgia Bulldogs, Ralphie the Buffalo of University of Colorado Boulder and of course Bevo, the Texas Longhorns mascot.

Honorable mentions: Sir Big Spur (South Carolina), The Mountaineer (West Virginia), Mike the Tiger (LSU) and the ever-so-adorable Smokey (Tennessee).

If anything, this just gives the kids something to look at and/or pet during the game while dad is going straight super fan throughout the course of a game.
