After another slow start, the Tennessee Volunteers got it going at the Battle at Bristol. A 37-yard touchdown toss to Josh Malone from Josh Dobbs got the Vols back in the game.

For the second straight week, it looked like the questions that surrounded Josh Dobbs, Josh Malone and the Tennessee Volunteers were going to follow them into Week 3.

The Vols got off to an atrocious start again in the Battle at Bristol game against Virginia Tech, but a turnover and a quick score got Big Orange back in the hunt.

After another stop, Dobbs finally had some time to throw and connected with Malone on a 37-yard touchdown pass to the game up at 14 all.

Thanks to the unique setup at Bristol Motor Speedway on Saturday night, ESPN was able to provide a pretty sweet shot of Malone’s touchdown catch as well.

It’s hard to get much closer to the action than that.

Once again, we’re wondering how good Tennessee really is, but the second quarter has turned the tide for the Vols. They’re looking like a different team at the track.

Virginia Tech and first-year head man Justin Fuente got off to the hottest of starts, but they were cooled off by an inspired Volunteer bunch. There’s a long way to go, but if Dobbs has time to throw like this, Malone’s as dangerous as any player on the field.

Bud Foster and the Virginia Tech defense will have their hands full if Dobbs and Malone are in sync like this. They’re on a 17-0 run after a field goal in the second quarter.

There’s a lot of ball left to be played, but the Vols are starting to look like the Vols many expected them to be at the start of last week when they struggled with Appalachian State at home.
