Lionel Messi is at it again, scoring a truly phenomenal strike to unlock a stout Celtic defense for Barcelona in the Champions League.

The difference between great players and good players is consistency. Papa Bouba Diop scored some truly outstanding goals during his days with Fulham and Portsmouth. Nicklas Bendtner has even scored some terrific goals during his time. Both are far from consistent, though. Lionel Messi, however, is.

The Barcelona forward could well be the greatest player of all time. He’s certainly the greatest player of a generation. Has great pace, direct in his dribbling and is an outstanding goalscorer as evidenced once more against Celtic in the Champions League.

With the Scottish champions conceding possession, Messi was slipped in down the inside right channel, took a touch, darted towards goal, criminally allowed to enter the penalty area before thumping a truly ferocious strike into the back of the net.

His first took him only three minutes.

The second is equally as sumptuous.

With Celtic once again backing off the magician, Messi waltzes forward with the ball to the edge of the penalty area. Threatening to shoot, Messi instead plays a lovely one-two, darts into the box and simply walks the ball into the back of the net.

The Argentina and Barcelona star continues to defy logic, now having scored 84 Champions League goals. He is the best player in the world. Could he be writing himself into history as the best ever?
