With a number of game announcements coming for this years Tokyo Game Show, one of the big ones was the new trailer for Kingdom Hearts HD 2.8.

Every year at the Tokyo Game Show, Sony has a huge presence since many of their games come out first in Japan, so many attenders get a first look at a game that they’ll be able to play first before they release in the West.

One of the games that fans have been waiting a long time for is the new Kingdom Hearts game. Unfortunately, we aren’t talking about Kingdom Hearts 3, but we’re talking about Kindgom Hearts HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue. The name may sound confusing and there’s no doubt that the timeline of each game is scattered everywhere throughout multiple games in the series, but many players will be able to play past games in the series in a new light.

Kindgom Hearts HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue is a successor to Kingdom Hearts HD 2.5 Remix and it will include an HD remaster of Kingdom Hearts 3D: Dream Drop Distance. It will also include two never before scene pieces of content. One is Kingdom Hearts: Back Cover, which is a new HD cinematic that will tell the story of the Foretellers.

The other is Kingdom Hearts 0.2 Birth by Sleep-A Fragmentary Passage. This is an all-new game which is in the perspective of the character Aqua and its set after Birth by Sleep.

Once again, it isn’t Kingdom Hearts 3, and in a way, it makes us very sad. We’ve been waiting years for that game to drop. But, it seems like Square Enix has many more stories to tell about the series before they decide to tell the final one. Much of it seems like filler and most of these extra stories aren’t very well-received, but they’re still fun to play and will keep us entertained up until Kingdom Hearts 3 is released.

Kindgom Hearts HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue is set to launch on Jan. 24, 2017.
