19. Marlon Humphrey – CB – Alabama Crimson Tide
Marlon Humphrey, son of former NFL RB Bobby Humphrey, made his debut for Alabama as a redshirt freshman last year. There was a lot of hype surrounding him being a five-star recruit and the offspring of a retired Pro Bowler. Luckily for Humphrey, he lived up to the hype as his play helped the Crimson Tide capture last season’s national championship.
Standing at 6-foot-1 and weighing 196 pounds, Marlon has excellent size for an ideal NFL CB. His coverage skils are very good and only improving, while his three interceptions and eight pass deflections last year were proof of his ball-hawking ability. Humphrey is no slouch when it comes to run defense, where he proved to be more than a finesse player. He also has world-class athleticism and won gold at the 2013 World Youth Track and Field Championships in the 110m and 400m hurdles. He even runs a little bit for Alabama’s 4x400m relay team.
As a redshirt sophomore this season, Humphrey is a favorite to win the Jim Thorpe award for the best defensive back in the country. He is also considered to be the one of the top NFL prospects at his position. Therefore, barring injury, Marlon appears locked in to be an early first-round selection. If he continues to play at or above the level that he’s already shown, it’s possible Humphrey will be first CB to grace a Madden NFL cover since the Seahawks‘ Richard Sherman.
