AFC North rivals the Cincinnati Bengals and Pittsburgh Steelers meet at Heinz Field in Week 2 of the 2016 NFL season. Both teams are 1-0 after impressive wins on the opening weekend.

The Steelers got their season rolling by crushing the Washington Redskins at FedEx Field on Monday night. It was a performance that not only showed off Pittsburgh’s offensive potential, but also the maturation of an underrated defense.

Head coach Mike Tomlin and coordinator Kevin Butler shelved the aggressive, zone-blitzing that’s defined this unit for over two decades. Instead, the Steelers went with a zone-heavy coverage scheme akin to the famous Tampa 2.

It was all seven- and eight-man coverage looks that kept the ball in front. Washington quarterback Kirk Cousins was forced to throw short and his receivers were usually hit hard before they could make any yards after the catch.

It’s an approach  that could work well against the Bengals in Week 2. Like Washington, the Cincy offense is loaded with big-play threats, notably wide receiver A.J. Green and tight end Tyler Eifert.

But the Steelers have had success frustrating quarterback Andy Dalton with the blitz in the past. Expect a return to their more exotic roots.

Pittsburgh will need to disrupt Dalton after he and Green tormented the New York Jets in Week 1. Dalton threw for 366 yards against a very tough defense.

The fact he did so while only getting 57 yards from his running game, as well as taking seven sacks, just made his effort more impressive.

Whoever wins will naturally assume early control of the division. If it’s the Bengals, a second win in the conference would offer a potential boost to their seeding come playoff time.

Yet, with this NFL season still in its infancy, this one is going to be more about bragging rights.
