Rice’s MOB Band makes fun of Baylor sexual assault scandal
Rice’s Marching Owl Band may have gotten carried away with their Friday night halftime performance, making fun of Baylor’s recent sexual assault scandal.
During their halftime performance of a Friday night college football game between the Rice Owls and Baylor Bears, Rice’s Marching Owl Band didn’t hold anything back.
The halftime performance included Title IX and star formations, making fun of Baylor’s recent sexual assault scandal in front of the visiting college football fans.
The star formation is for Ken Starr, the former Baylor president who resigned in disgrace after drastically mishandling the accusations of sexual assault against football players on his university’s campus.
Title IX refers to the law that no person in the United State should be excluded from or be subject to any discrimination under any education program or activity receiving federal financial assistance, essentially giving equal rights to all genders in collegiate athletics.
In 2015, former football player Sam Ukwuachu was convicted of raping a student. In 2014, Baylor football player Tevin Elliott was under trial, being accused of raping five women, which resulted in a sentence of 20 years in prison.
Based on those investigations and many more, the truth came to light that the university had created an environment were sexual assault was discouraged from being reported, especially when it involved members of the football program.
The Baylor fans predictably responded with loud boos to the MOB’s insult in front of their own cheering section.
Former Baylor head coach Art Briles, who was fired in the wake of the scandal and had assistant coaches caught interfering with the investigation, was in attendance for the game and sitting on that side of the field.
