Canelo Alvarez challenges Liam Smith for the WBO light middleweight title at Cowboys Stadium. Here’s all the info you need to watch online.

It wouldn’t be Mexican Independence Day without Canelo Alvarez fighting, now would it? Even though it’s not the Gennady Golovkin fight that boxing fans deserve, Alvarez’s fight against Liam Smith will be a spectacle.

Golden Boy Promotions chose the perfect time to book it. A fight like Alvarez vs. Smith would usually figure to be a box office bomb. But with so many Mexicans celebrating Independence Day, they will fill the venue in support of their own. The venue just so happens to be Cowboys Stadium too, meaning the reception Canelo is due to receive will be a good look for the promotion.

In a post-Floyd Mayweather world (since Manny Pacquiao is set to return soon), Canelo Alvarez is the biggest star in boxing. While he is the challenger, he is the heavy favorite, and everyone will be tuning in to see him. This fight is exactly the showcase he needs to prove that he can attract a big crowd, no matter the opponent. And if he puts in a great performance against Smith, it’ll only elevate his star status.

This fight will be on HBO pay-per-view, which will start at 9 PM EST. However, there is an undercard attached to it, so you can expect the main event to start at 11:30 PM to 12 AM EST. Here’s all the info you need to watch online:

The question that will remain on everyone’s mind is whether this fight will lead to Canelo vs. GGG. Golovkin took a sharp left turn in his last post-fight interview when he said he’d rather fight Billie Joe Saunders. But Canelo is surely on the back of his mind. Although they have an agreement in place to fight in the fall of 2017, there’s no telling if they’ll hold up their side of the bargain.

Boxing fans everywhere are hoping this fight doesn’t turn into Mayweather vs. Pacquiao, where we finally got to see it long after it was meant to be made.
