The beleaguered San Diego Chargers lost another playmaker as Danny Woodhead fell to a knee injury in the first quarter of Week 2.

The San Diego Chargers watched in dismay as running back Danny Woodhead suffered a knee injury and had to be carted off of the field in the first quarter of the Week 2 game against Jacksonville. Woodhead was injured after being tackled by Jaguars linebacker Telvin Smith.

Woodhead has been with the San Diego Chargers since 2013 after several productive years with the New England Patriots. Woodhead had a productive 2015 with 755 receiving yards and 336 rushing yards. Last week, en route to a 27-33 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs, Woodhead tallied 89 rushing yards and 31 receiving yards, including a touchdown.

Woodhead’s injury is the second major setback for the Chargers. Last week, wide receiver Keenan Allen tore his ACL. Despite the injuries, the Chargers led the Jacksonville Jaguars 21-0 with just under ten minutes left in the first half. Melvin Gordon, Travis Benjamin, and Antonio Gates have each scored touchdowns for the Chargers, while the defense has held the Jaguars quarterback Blake Bortles to a paltry 35 passing yards. Tight end Antonio Gates picked up the slack in Woodhead’s absence.

Other teams also suffered inconvenient injuries this week. Patriots backup quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo left his team’s game against the Miami Dolphins with a shoulder injury earlier on Sunday.  Dolphins running back Arian Foster left the game with a groin injury. Carolina Panthers running back Jonathan Stewart and Tampa Bay Buccaneers running back Doug Martin also left their respective games injured on Sunday.
