Of the two Spanish giants, Barcelona were the first to stumble during league play (Real Madrid are still perfect and sit atop the La Liga table), losing a shocker to Alaves at home back on Sept. 10 (Lionel Messi didn’t start). Stating that they have righted the ship since then is way too tame: Barca demolished Celtic 7-0 in the Champions League last Tuesday before traveling to Leganes for a La Liga match in which they scored five more goals. Lionel Messi scored five goals during those two matches. Atletico Madrid better batten down the hatches.
Atleti currently sit in fourth on the La Liga table (two draws; two wins) and have been on a pretty decent scoring run themselves. They won their previous three games by a combined score of 10-0. (Nine of those goals came in their two league matches; their other match was a 1-0 win against PSV in the Champions League.) Breakout Euro 2016 star Antoine Griezmann scored a brace during two of these, and club legend Fernando Torres added a brace of his own in their last league victory over Sporting de Gijon.
