In all reality, James Harden has been the Houston Rockets point guard for a few years now. He runs the offense, does the major play making and takes a lot of the shots. But in the world we live in, James Harden is the “new” point guard for the Houston Rockets. That means James Harden has to get into character. So James Harden is now wearing some new shorts.

Those shorts are quite short. So short in fact I thought at first that Harden was wearing compression shorts to practice. Then I saw the stripes on the side.

I guess the idea is to “honor” the point guards Harden grew up with like John Stockton and Magic Johnson. But those guys played a long time ago. Styles have changed since then. Players now wear much longer shorts.

It will be interesting to see if Harden stays with the look all year. Over the last few preseasons plenty of players have been rocking the short, shorts look. But it always seems to go away before the season really hits its stride. If Harden does roll with the short look all the way through the season he deserves some real props.

If not, well honestly I can’t say I would be that disappointed.
