The Georgia Bulldogs will to have to play their Week 5 game versus the Tennessee Volunteers without running back Nick Chubb. He is out with an ankle injury.

It’s only Week 5, but it might be the end of the line for the Georgia Bulldogs’ College Football Playoff chances in 2016. Georgia enters play on Saturday at 3-1 (1-1) as the No. 25 team in the nation. The Bulldogs will play the undefeated No. 11 Tennessee Volunteers at home without star running back Nick Chubb.

According to Chip Towers of DawgNation and the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, Chubb is not going to play on Saturday due to a left ankle injury he suffered in the first half of Georgia’s Week 4 loss to the Ole Miss Rebels in Oxford.

When healthy, Chubb is one of the most dynamic running backs in college football. He had a fantastic freshman campaign in 2014, as the Bulldogs’ second all-time single-season rusher behind only Herschel Walker.

In 2015, Chubb has his eyes on the Heisman Trophy. However, he tore multiple knee ligaments in his right knee versus Tennessee in Knoxville on the first play from scrimmage. He obviously missed the rest of his sophomore season.

Chubb came back in Week 1 of this season and ran for two touchdowns and over 200 yards against the North Carolina Tar Heels at the Georgia Dome. He has not had the same success on the ground for the Bulldogs the last three weeks, as he has been kept under 100 rushing yards in all three contests.

Not having Chubb available to play against SEC East favorite Tennessee on Saturday doesn’t bode well for Georgia’s chances to upset the Volunteers. Should the Bulldogs fall to 1-2 in SEC play after Saturday’s game, there is almost no chance Georgia can win the SEC East in 2016.
