What a major shift in the pecking order for the 2017 NFL mock draft this week. Aside from the top spot there are plenty of new teams in new positions.

How much does it impact the selection process? About as much as can be expected, which is a lot. Get ready for a number of twists and turns in this latest top 32 including a couple of surprising trades and a major bomb drop at the quarterback position.

1. Cleveland Browns

53. Nothing is going to change at the top of every mock draft until the Cleveland Browns actually win a game. There is no disputing the fact that they came into 2016 as the worst team in the NFL and they’re living up to that label. Such is the result of so many years of mismanagement. That being said the team is playing hard each week. Hue Jackson is establishing the right kind of culture. Now it’s a matter of getting good enough players to fill it.
Of course everything begins with a quarterback. The team seemed quite happy with Robert Griffin III but that didn’t work out. Now they’re trying to insist Cody Kessler can be something special. Perhaps, but his college film and physical skill set doesn’t really back that up. Everything points to them starting over with a fresh top draft pick at quarterback. Somebody with elite caliber talent who can grow within the system to hopefully become a star.

The universal belief is Deshone Kizer is destined for that spot. He’s playing better each week for Notre Dame, running a scheme with pro-style tendencies and displaying a skill set that is as rare as it is versatile. He can stand in the pocket and fire it down the field. He can also use his great athleticism to run zone-read or bootleg systems. There is no end to the possibilities. All they have to do is turn in the card.
. QB. Notre Dame. Deshone Kizer . 1. player
