Week 6 of the 2016 college football season had many exciting games. Here are the weekly superlatives from Week 6 as a part of College Football Blitz.
Six weeks are already in the books of the 2016 college football season. With every passing week, we get one game closer to knowing which four teams will qualify for the third annual College Football Playoff.
The Clemson Tigers are leading the ACC. The Big 12 has three undefeated teams in the Michigan Wolverines, the Nebraska Cornhuskers, and the Ohio State Buckeyes. In the SEC, the two lone undefeated teams are the Alabama Crimson Tide and the Texas A&M Aggies. The Pac-12 has Washington and the Big 12 has the Baylor Bears and the West Virginia Mountaineers.
Though several top teams were on their bye week, here are the weekly superlatives from this weekend’s games as a part of College Football Blitz:
Offensive Player of the Week: Oklahoma Sooners WR Dede Westbrook
The Oklahoma Sooners needed a big win over a Big 12 rival in the Texas Longhorns on Saturday to feel good about their team the rest of the way. Oklahoma knocked off bitter rival Texas at the Cotton Bowl in the Red River Showdown, 45-40. The Sooners’ best player was easily wide receiver Dede Westbrook.

Westbrook broke an Oklahoma school record for most receiving yards in a game. He had 10 catches for 232 yards and three big touchdowns on the weak Texas defense. All three of Westbrook’s scores were considered explosive plays, all over 40 yards through the air.
Oklahoma needed Westbrook big time to win this shootout over arch rival Texas. Without Westbrook, Oklahoma falls to 2-3 on the year and head coach Bob Stoops’ job might have been in jeopardy.
Instead, Oklahoma moves on to a cool 3-2 and Texas head coach Charlie Strong is now very much on the hot seat in Austin. Oklahoma had struggled to find its new No. 1 wide receiver in 2016 once Sterling Shepard entered the 2016 NFL Draft. The Sooners have found their guy in Westbrook.
