Louisiana: Peyton Manning – Tennessee Volunteers

Louisiana has produced several excellent college quarterbacks, including Terry Bradshaw, Eli Manning, Brock Berlin, Patrick Ramsey, Kordell Stewart and Doug Williams. However, the greatest college signal-caller born in the Pelican State is one of the greatest players to ever live: Peyton Manning.

Manning enjoyed an enormous amount of success playing for the Tennessee Volunteers. He was named SEC Freshman of the Year in 1994, was a first-team All-SEC selection in 1995 and a third-team All-American in 1996. As a senior, he received nearly every award you can think of. This included the Davey O’Brien, Johnny Unitas, Maxwell and James E. Sullivan awards. He was also the SEC Player of the Year and a consensus All-American, though he finished second in the Heisman Trophy voting that year.

Peyton went on to become one of the best pro quarterbacks of all time. His five MVPs, two Super Bowl rings, 14 Pro Bowl selections and numerous passing records are proof of his greatness.

Peyton Manning was a true blessing to the game of football and that includes his time in college. There is no Louisiana-born signal caller that can top his achievements.
