Paul Pierce plans to retire with Celtics
By Dan O'shea
Paul Pierce, one of the greatest Boston Celtics to ever take the floor, is retiring where he started it all.
For the last few seasons, Boston Celtics fans have had to deal with the uncomfortable eye sore of seeing Paul Pierce in another uniform. It’s like seeing your ex with someone else. The breakup wasn’t bad, but for the most part it’s strange seeing them someone who isn’t you. No one will look back and remember the good ol’ days of Pierce wearing a Nets, Wizards or Clippers uniform. It’s been borderline painful to watch one of the most dominant players in the last 20 years come off the bench for just a few minutes a game. After this season, the pain will be over.
Pierce has officially announced he’ll be retiring a Celtic.
After playing out his final days in his hometown of L.A, Pierce announced on SiriusXM NBA Radio that he plans on signing a one day contract to go out the way it all started: by being serenaded by the cheers of Celtics’ faithful.
"“I would love to do that. I think I’ll always be remembered as a Celtic. I had all my glory days, all my prime was pretty much as a Boston Celtic. So, I think I owe the fans and I owe myself that much, just to be able to put that uniform on one more time and go out that way, say I retired a Boston Celtic”- Paul Pierce on returning to Boston"
Other than adding championship banner No. 18, nothing could sound better for Boston fans. Pierce was the best Celtic for almost two decades. Following the Bird dynasty, Paul Pierce was the man who kept Boston afloat. Amidst losing seasons, trade rumors, and seasons where he had to share the ball with the likes of Antoine Walker, Pierce still remained the face of the Celtics’ organization.
