Memphis Grizzlies center Marc Gasol seems to have suffered an injury to his right foot during Memphis’ preseason game with the rival Houston Rockets.

The Memphis Grizzlies are a talented team in the NBA’s Western Conference with one huge caveat — when healthy. Memphis suffered serious setbacks in the injury department in 2015-16 and barely qualified for the NBA Playoffs.

The Grizzlies’ most significant injury was a broken foot to star center Marc Gasol. He ended up missing the Grizzlies’ final 30 regular season games, the first round of the Western Conference Playoffs, and the 2016 Summer Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro.

On Saturday night in Houston, Gasol appeared to have hurt his right foot in a preseason game with the Southwest Division rival Houston Rockets. Gasol had the trainers look at his injured right foot, removed his shoe, and he headed into the locker room.

Should any long-term injury happen to either Gasol or star point guard Mike Conley, the Grizzlies are in trouble in 2016-17. They just don’t have the depth to sustain injuries to either franchise cornerstone. These two have spent their entire NBA careers in Memphis.

If Gasol is out for any length of time, does this mean that new head coach David Fizdale will have to start Zach Randolph in the front court instead of having him come off the bench?

Gasol is an absolute delight to watch play basketball. It would be a shame to see him miss another chunk of an NBA season with a foot injury. He is a seven-footer and NBA big men always seem to have issues with their feet. Let’s hope this is not the case for Gasol.
