2017 NFL Mock Draft: Panthers steal impact defensive prospect
The most talented player in a loaded class of cornerbacks, Jalen “Teez” Tabor is clearly a prospect worth considering with a top five pick. The New York Jets’ defense is loaded with talent, but they have a secondary that leaves plenty to be desired.
Darrelle Revis simply is not as good as he used to be. He is still a solid NFL cornerback, but the days of Revis Island are long gone. Having a true shutdown corner on the outside gives the defense a significant edge. It could be the difference between an average Jets’ unit like we are seeing now, and an elite one.
Considering Revis is not that guy anymore, the Jets could make Tabor a majority priority in the first round. Tabor is a big and aggressive corner who shows elite level athleticism and quickness at the position.
Tabor can legitimately shut down big and strong receivers, while having more than enough speed and quickness to take on smaller speed guys. He has also shown the ability to defend up in press and also in off coverage, and has experience both on the outside and in the slot.
Tabor is an extremely talented and versatile cornerback who can handle anything that is thrown at him. Make no mistake about it, this guy is a true shutdown cornerback in the making and would undoubtedly be a fantastic addition by the Jets.
If the Jets’ defense is going to get back to what we are used to, getting another shutdown corner is essential. Tabor undoubtedly could be that guy.
