Slumping into this game, the Baltimore Ravens need a rebound this week as they take on the New York Jets in the Empire State.

The Ravens have lost three in a row, including a heartbreaker last week against the Giants where they took a 10-0 lead. With Ben Roethlisberger out for the upcoming weeks, the Ravens have some time to make up ground but it starts with a win this week.

Joe Flacco didn’t practice on Wednesday or Thursday (right shoulder injury), so his status for Sunday is up in the air. If he can’t go, Ryan Mallett would be the QB for Baltimore. If this is the case, this would be a matchup between two quarterbacks making their first starts of the season. Geno Smith was named the starter for this week by head coach Todd Bowles on Monday.

Both Mallett and Smith have starts under their belts in the past, but one could expect a low-scoring affair in this one if Flacco does indeed sit out. The Jets thus far have been a true comedy of sorts on offense. Their defense hasn’t been particularly bad, but their offense has been so much of a circus that the defense has no room for error.

Smith must play better than Ryan Fitzpatrick did in the second half of games. It’s at this point in games where the Jets have let leads or close games slip away and run awry. There’s no telling what we can expect from Smith on Sunday, as he hasn’t started since 2014. The Jets need to see what they have in him and had to let him play.

In the last two weeks, the Ravens run game has woken up a bit with Terrance West finding his footing in the offense. He has 295 total yards and three TD’s in his last two games. Since the opener when the Jets notched seven sacks, the pass rush has only accumulated four since Week 1.

In their last three games, the Jets have only scored seven points combined, as I mentioned above, Smith has got to create plays for the Jets offense in the second half to keep this one close.
