The Pittsburgh Panthers pulled off a ridiculously gutsy play by sending an offensive lineman on an end around.

On Thursday night, Pittsburgh and Virginia Tech are battling in an ACC Game. The winner should gain some ground in the conference as both have solid 2-1 and 3-1 records, respectively. A Hokie win would also allow them to move up from No. 25 in the AP Poll too.

Heading into the fourth quarter, Pitt was down, 29-21. However, they maneuvered their way to the red zone and got to the five yard line, setting up for a potential score.

A classic running play to throw off the defense is the end around. This usually sees a fakeout to the running back and the ball being tossed to the wide receiver instead. Given how often this has been done before, teams pretty much know when it’s happening. Would you ever expect an offensive lineman, though?

With the ball at the five-yard line, quarterback Nathan Peterman faked a handoff to the running back and gave the ball to offensive lineman Brian O’Neill on the end around. The 300-pounder would swing to the right and dive over the goal line for the score.

A look at this unusually awesome play can be seen below.

The Panthers would go for two and tie the game at 29. Virginia Tech would score a field goal on the ensuing drive to bring it to 32-29.

As for the offensive lineman end around, when do you ever see that happen? 300-pound football players who can do that never come around. They’re usually quick enough to block down the field, but never to score like that. It’s a bold move from Pittsburgh that Tech couldn’t have game planned for.
