1. The Urban Meyer factor

It’s no secret that Urban Meyer is in a different pantheon than other college football coaches. When the stakes are high, Meyer is the man you want on the sideline. Meyer is no stranger to bouncing back after an early regular-season loss. This year’s ordeal with the Buckeyes is reminiscent of 2008 (Florida) and 2015 (Ohio State), which so happen to be years where his teams won the National Championship.

Meyer has a record of 56-5 as the Buckeyes coach for a reason. The college football committee knows that a few coaches like Meyer. Respectability plays a factor in impressing the committe.

Outside of Nick Saban in Alabama, there is not a more decorated head coach in college football. In the short sample size when the college football playoff has been assembled, Meyer has proven that he can coach against anyone, and excel.

Like a lot of things in sports, making it to the CFP can have a political element. The committee is well aware of Meyer’s coaching prowess, therefore it would be hard to leave a one-loss OSU team on the outside looking in.

As it has been witnessed, the Meyer factor is real, and that is good enough reason not to count out the Buckeyes chances.
