NFL Trade Rumors: Joe Thomas could be moved before the deadline
Will the future Hall of Fame left tackle finally be dealt from the Browns?
With the NFL’s trade deadline looming, whispers have surfaced about the possible movement of Browns LT Joe Thomas. Thomas has been one of the best blind-side protectors since entering the league back in 2007. While being recognized as perhaps the NFL’s best tackle, it is unfortunate that his career has had to play out in Cleveland. Luckily for him, that could change by next week. NBC’s Pro Football Talk is reporting that two teams are interested in acquiring Thomas. As PFT explains, there is still $4.39 million for the left tackle to make in 2016, so any team trading for Thomas would need the appropriate cap space.
Squads including the Giants, Seahawks, and Vikings have been thrown in the rumor mix involving Thomas. This is not the first time the 10 year veteran’s name has been thrown around like this. Last season’s trade deadline almost featured Thomas being shipped to Denver. Chances are that a deal will not get done here. NFL trades are simply hard to come by. It also should be noted that Browns head coach Hue Jackson vocalized Thomas would not be dealt earlier this week. With all that being said, now seems like a perfect time for Cleveland to dispose of their most valuable asset. The organization owes it to Thomas to allow him to play for a contender before his career ends.

Speculation has been that the Browns are looking for a second rounder to move their franchise player. For teams like Seattle and Indianapolis who have valuable commodities at QB, this might be a price worth paying. If I am Thomas, I am begging the front office for a chance to compete somewhere else. For his sake, let us hope they do so.
