Michigan Wolverines star Jabrill Peppers is just too good for Michigan State, even when he’s playing on offense

There’s no real debate at this point that Michigan Wolverines safety/linebacker/returner/running back Jabrill Peppers is going to be a top-five pick in the 2017 NFL Draft. Players with his physical skill-set and versatility are increasingly valuable, but also tremendously rare. He showed off a bit of that ridiculous versatility on the Wolverines’ first drive of the game against the Michigan State Spartans.

After their defense gave up an uncharacteristic opening-drive touchdown, Michigan was looking for the answer. They made quick work of the field and drove down deep into the red zone. Sitting three yards away from six points, they made the smart decision to just put the ball in the hands of Peppers.

Peppers lined up in a Wildcat formation at the pseudo-quarterback spot. He had no intention of giving up the rock, though. Instead, he simply took the snap and carried it out wide to the right. Despite solid pursuit from Sparty, Peppers is just too shifty and too fast and ultimately got the edge. He dove for the pylon and got in with ease for the three-yard rushing touchdown:

Yeah, that guy who looks like a star running back is also the best safety in college football. That’s what you call talent.

Peppers’ days playing for Michigan are numbered as he’ll be seen on Sundays sooner rather than later. While he’s still in the college ranks, we’d be wise to appreciate plays like this and what a special player is on display out of Ann Arbor.
