Cleveland Indians second baseman Jason Kipnis launched a home run in the seventh inning of World Series Game 4.

In case heartbreak wasn’t already on the menu in Game 4 of the World Series for the Chicago Cubs, Jason Kipnis made sure to drive the stake through the heart of the city. The native Chicagoan came up to the plate with two on in the seventh inning and launched a home run that would consume the souls of the Cubs fans that were left in the stadium.

As Travis Wood delivered a pitch on a 3-1 count, Kipnis unloaded the ball straight to right field. There was never any doubt about the shot and the outfielders didn’t even move an inch.

For Cleveland, they had already a solid advantage with three runs and a fierce bullpen, but this home run gave them all the insurance that they needed. The Cubs came into the game looking to even up the series, but timely hitting by the Indians and Kipnis here has all but pushed Chicago to the brink of elimination.

The World Series is all about finding that player that will step up. Cleveland has had plenty do it thus far, but it’s a bit poetic that the Chicago native was the one to deliver a major blow to the city he once called home.
