The first College Football Playoff rankings for the 2016 season were released on Tuesday

As if we expected anything less, it has indeed been another exciting college football season here in 2016. Of course, though, with the month of November now upon us it’s time to put a little more focus on who the real contenders for the national championship are. That means we were treated to the first College Football Playoff rankings of the 2016 season.

With the way that things have gone thus far this season, the first top four in the country were really no surprise. As it stands right now, four currently undefeated teams are in the running to win the coveted trophy that every college football program wants when the season comes to a close.

Here’s a look at how the rankings rounded out on Tuesday:

There’s no question, through nine weeks of the college football season, that the Alabama Crimson Tide are probably the best team in the country. They’ve rolled through their competition and they’re showing no signs of stopping. The home stretch of their season begins this weekend with a tough trip on the road to Death Valley to take on the LSU Tigers.

The Clemson Tigers haven’t made it look all that easy at times, but much like the 2014 Florida State Seminoles, they’ve been able to get the job done one way or another and are in position to make an appearance in their second-consecutive College Football Playoff. All they really have to do is not slip up along the way.

Then we have the Michigan Wolverines, a team that’s captivated the country led by polarizing head coach Jim Harbaugh. In just his second season at the helm, he has his alma mater in a position to play for the national championship, which is an accomplishment that should not be overlooked. If things keep going the way they’re going, then the usual end-of-season matchup with rival Ohio State will be as interesting as it has ever been.

Then we had the shocker of Texas A&M being No. 4 over Washington, which will have a lot of people talking.

So this is how we’re starting off the road to the College Football Playoff. Is this how things will look come December?
