Michigan defensive back Jabrill Peppers is a once-in-a-decade type of player. He’s a go-to standout and the definition of a leader. Here’s five reasons why he should dominate the competition and win the Heisman Trophy.

The University of Michigan is having a banner year. In fact, it’s their best start since 2006 when the team won their first eleven games only to be upset by Ohio State in the final game of the season.

The team has an efficient staff and a proven winner in head coach Jim Harbaugh. Not to mention a long list of talented players, the most talented by far being Jabrill Peppers. He’s electric on the field and lights-out in the air. Currently in his third year at Ann Arbor, he is the most complete player in Michigan history since cornerback Charles Woodson.

Though it’s true he’s writing his own collegiate story, Peppers does compare heavily to the aforementioned Michigan alum in Woodson. Much like 1997 championship team, the Wolverines have put themselves in a good position to win the Big Ten division and the National Title.

Furthermore, every week that Michigan plays, Peppers makes himself look more like the logical choice for the Heisman Trophy. Here’s five reasons why he should win the Heisman Trophy.

5. His versatility is astounding

While it’s true that Jabrill Peppers is considered the most complete player since Charles Woodson, he may actually be more well-rounded.

Peppers is listed as a safety, but is considered a linebacker in most cases as well. However, his talents go much deeper than that. Most recently, against Michigan State, over the course of the game he played ten positions.

He lined up 42 plays at linebacker, 12 at cornerback, nine at nickel back, six as a wildcat quarterback, one at safety, one as an H-back and played one down as a receiver. Not to mention his usual duties as a kick and punt returner. His tenth position came in the form of the field goal block team.

His contribution for the day consisted of 24 yards rushing, a reception, 23 return yards, seven tackles, two for a loss, a touchdown, a fumble return for two points, and a sack.

The only thing more amazing then his versatility is his love for the game. Peppers isn’t big on rest in between plays, in fact, other than to sit for the occasional cramp he is ready for every possession.

The Michigan product is on a constant pursuit to get better every time he takes the field. On Saturday against the Spartans, he missed one tackle and drew a pass interference call. Instead of focusing on his amazing contributions, he was fixated on how to play better. It’s that type of mindset that makes him the perfect candidate for the Heisman Trophy.
