2017 NFL Mock Draft: Trio of quarterbacks land in top 10
By Brad Weiss
No Calvin Johnson, no problem for Matthew Stafford, who is having arguably his best season as a pro in 2016. The Detroit Lions have been very solid on offense, despite the fact that they are getting nothing from the running back position. Marvin Jones Jr. and Golden Tate are one of the best 1-2 tandems at the wide receiver position in football, and have led the team to a 5-4 record this season.
The defensive side of the ball has been another story, as the team has struggled to make stops this season. In the secondary, it has been a horror show most weeks, and they need to make a pick in April that will improve the unit. Iowa’s Desmond King has been one of the best cornerbacks in college football for a few years now, and could have actually been a first rounder last year.
King returned for his senior season, and continues to show why he is rated so high. He does not have great speed, but he closes on the ball extremely well, and has very soft hands for a defensive back. He is a hard-nosed player, and the city of Detroit loves guys who go out there and give it there all every week. King is that kind of player.
