College Football Results Against The Spread Week 10

I hate being desperately in need of a good week, but that is where I find myself now. After nine weeks of college football, I sit at 211-253 on the season. Worse than that, I have also managed to lose 156 points under my points system. All of the good I did last year has been undone.

More from College Football Odds

So, I guess it isn’t out of line to ask, are you here to see me turn it around or are you here for the train wreck this college football season has become? The first rankings were pretty well decimated already this week. This could be a fun end of the season! There are only four full weeks left, but first, I have to add in the tally from week 10.

At first glance, I don’t think I did very well. I know I missed quite a few of the ones I watched after a solid start to the weekend. I only had 38 points in Pick Em, if that tells you anything. Did that carry over?

Here are the college football results against the spread for week 10. Winners against the spread are in BOLD. My results will follow.

Bowling Green at Northern Illinois(-17.5): MISS! Joel Bouagnon ran for five touchdowns in this one. NIU needs to win out for a bowl berth. If they play like they did on Tuesday, it is possible.

Western Michigan(-17.5) at Ball State: HIT! The Broncos are quickly becoming the group of five’s only hope. I kinda hope they do get to play a power five team. There is some NFL talent on this team.

Toledo(-8.5) at Akron: HIT! For the record, Kareem Hunt only had 136 yards. He only carried 17 times though. Toledo didn’t need him for more than that.

Buffalo at Ohio(-19.5): HIT! Tyree Jackson had a solid game for the Bulls, but he was the only one.

Oklahoma(-20.5) at Iowa State: HIT! Well, at least Abdul Adams and Dimitri Flowers showed we have tremendous depth at RB….

Arkansas State(-3.5) at Georgia State: HIT! After a miserable start to the season, the Red Wolves are 4-0 in the Sun Belt and staring down another bowl berth.

UCLA at Colorado(-11.5): MISS! This was a very sloppy game for the Buffaloes on offense. The defense turned in an outstanding second half though.

Central Michigan(-3.5) at Miami(OH): HIT! Miami is trying to do the impossible: starting 0-6 and rebounding to make a bowl game. They have the schedule to do it, and are playing very well right now.

Temple(-10.5) at Connecticut: HIT! This was the football equivalent to being handcuffed. All of the points were scored within the first ten minutes of the game.

San Jose State at Boise State(-28.5): MISS! This is upsetting because I knew better. This should count as a loss for Boise since they didn’t even cover half of this against a poor team at home…

Nov 5, 2016; Lubbock, TX, USA; University of Texas Longhorns running back D

Navy vs. Notre Dame(-3.5): HIT! Notre Dame has owned the Middies in this series, but Navy has the bragging rights for a year at least! Even the great Keenan Reynolds never beat the Irish.

Air Force(-1.5) at Army: MISS! This beat down by the Falcons secured them the Commander In Chief Trophy.

Georgia Southern at Mississippi(-28.5): HIT! The Rebels have fallen apart, especially on defense. GSU actually led after the first quarter, and never trailed by more than ten.

Texas A&M(-11.5) at Mississippi State: MISS! No, this way not a byproduct of Trevor Knight getting hurt. The Bulldogs were in control before that happened. It just made sure the Aggies couldn’t come back.

Vanderbilt at Auburn(-25.5): MISS! Auburn was very lucky to escape this. They were never a threat to cover.

Louisville(-24.5) at Boston College: MISS! Fans have been waiting to see Louisville play like this on the road for a while now.

Texas(-3.5) at Texas Tech: MISS! D’Onta Foreman ran for a ridiculous 341 yards at the Longhorns picked up their first road win of the season. In November…..

Indiana(-13.5) at Rutgers: MISS! Rutgers never looked like a threat to win this game, yet they only lost by six. Well, progress is progress….

Michigan State(-7.5) at Illinois: MISS! The Spartans have lost seven straight for the first time since 1982, and are off to a 0-6 start in the Big Ten(14) for the first time ever. There really isn’t much else to say. Illinois still has a shot at a bowl, and Sparty will have it’s first losing season since 2006.

Wisconsin(-6.5) at Northwestern: MISS! I am just outhinking myself now….

Georgia Tech at North Carolina(-10.5): MISS! Ditto here. I knew GT didn’t have the offense to hang with North Carolina if they came out strong. They did.

Pittsburgh at Miami(FL)(-3.5): MISS! It’s the Lee Corso reference, isn’t it?

UTSA at Middle Tennessee State(-20.5): HIT! Nothing like a 40.5 point spread turnaround for the Roadrunners to break the losing streak!

Virginia at Wake Forest(-2.5): MISS! Yeah, I kind of had to close the afternoon like this….

Maryland at Michigan(-30.5): MISS! This was brutal. Michigan has looked great against average teams, and their schedule is full of those.

Purdue at Minnesota(-16.5): MISS! Purdue and LSU are exhibits A and B on why schools fire coaches in the middle of the season. LSU wasn’t going to a bowl. Now they will. Purdue at least has a shot at a bowl, but this team has no business winning three games, and wouldn’t have under the old regime.

Texas State at Appalachian State(-31.5): MISS! The Mountaineers didn’t score in the fourth quarter. Thanks a lot!

Oklahoma State at Kansas State(-2.5): HIT! This may not have been an epic battle, but it was sure an entertaining game.

Syracuse at Clemson(-26.5): MISS! Ouch!

Virginia Tech(-11.5) at Duke: MISS! Duke is slowly getting better….and slowly killing my average in the process.

Florida Atlantic at Rice(-3.5): MISS! Even the most logical of logic picks didn’t work this week. 2016 will go down in infamy for me, I’m afraid.

Charlotte at Southern Mississippi(-19.5): MISS! Charlotte won this outright. Are we sure hell isn’t frozen?

Oregon State at Stanford(-14.5): MISS! I should have just picked all road teams….

TCU at Baylor(-7.5): MISS! Here is the proof that I am cursed. I pick Baylor, and they lose by 40. At home. To a team that inferior to them at almost every position.

Fresno State at Colorado State(-15.5): MISS! So…..apparently playing better equates to a 37-0 shutout loss…..

BYU(-7.5) at Cincinnati: HIT! I need like a 20 game win streak to make this week respectable. I already know I didn’t get it. The terrible afternoon isn’t over yet.

Massachusetts at Troy(-21.5): MISS! Yeah, that’s all I need. To start losing halves as well.

Florida(-4.5) at Arkansas: MISS! The gap between the SEC East and the SEC West is apparently as wide as the chasm separating me from respectability.

Missouri at South Carolina(-6.5): HIT! Two out of four aint bad. It’s the one out of 11 before that that really hurts.

Arizona at Washington State(-16.5): HIT! Can I distribute some of the extra points that the Cougars covered by to other games to make this week anything but a disaster? Please? What about if I beg?

Memphis(-3.5) at SMU: MISS! I knew better here as well.

Idaho at Lousiana-Lafayette(-5.5): HIT! Barring a major meltdown, the Vandals are going to make a bowl!

South Alabama(-12.5) at Louisiana-Monroe: MISS! How in the world can the same team (presumably) be so inconsistent? The Jaguars may be the worst I have ever seen. That is saying a lot!

Tulane at Central Florida(-16.5): MISS! My error was presuming this line was right in the first place….

Florida International at Western Kentucky(-32.5): MISS! The Hilltoppers didn’t allow just one garbage time TD. Oh no. I could have made it through that. They allowed another on top of it!

Louisiana Tech(-20.5) at North Texas: HIT! I’m glad I got this when I did. It was -21.5 at kickoff!

Marshall at Old Dominion(-11.5): HIT! The Monarchs are bowl-bound!

Florida State(-6.5) at North Carolina State: MISS! I should probably just ignore everything and flip a coin. I couldn’t be any worse….

Hawaii at San Diego State(-21.5): HIT! It wasn’t only Donnel Pumphrey that went bonkers here. Rashaad Penny ran for over 100 yards as well on just eight carries!

Oregon at USC(-17.5): MISS! There have been more games this week that I looked back on and thought I should have known better than in the entire nine weeks before this combined. I’ve lost my mojo.

Kansas at West Virginia(-34.5): HIT! It’s a good thing the Mountaineers let up. Kansas was scoreless at halftime.

Iowa at Penn State(-6.5): HIT! This was the most ass-backwards line I had ever seen. This is one of the very few that I do bet in real life. This was the easiest money you will ever make.

Georgia(-2.5) at Kentucky: HIT! I was sweating this one. I am 2-1 against the halves this week. That should count for something, right?

Alabama(-7.5) at LSU: MISS! I at least expected LSU to have an offensive playbook. It sure didn’t look like it in this one….

East Carolina at Tulsa(-9.5): MISS! Yes…..I know…..I knew better….

Nebraska at Ohio State(-17.5): MISS! I was not delusional enough to believe that Nebraska was a top ten team, but wow. This wasn’t a game even before Armstrong got hurt. This ended up being the second worst loss in school history. One point better than Texas Tech’s 70-10 thrashing in 2004.

Nevada at New Mexico(-14.5): MISS! {expletive deleted}

Utah State at Wyoming(-14.5): HIT! Everyone had a hunch that Craig Bohl would turn this program around. It’s safe to say that he has.

Washington(-17.5) at California: HIT! We will get to find out just how good Washington is this week.

An awful afternoon in which I only got three of 17 picks right torpedoed this week. If you take that disaster out, I actually finished only two games under. That’s right. I was knocking on the door of my worst week ever for the third time this season. This week it was an abysmal 23-36 record. That puts me at 234-289 on the season. I only have about 225 picks left to make including the bowls. I’m not getting out of this one. All I can do now is attempt to limit the damage.

Were my point bets just as bad? The season totals are in parentheses:

1. 2-11 (44-48) -4
2. 13-10 (92-91) +2
3. 5-12 (55-95) -120
4. 2-2 (31-33) -8
5. 1-1 (12-22) -50

I lost 24 more points this week due to my inability to get the three pointers right. My original goal was to get my point balance back to zero. Now I have adjusted it to just wanting to get back to zero when you add my +123 from last year!

Never in my seven years of doing this have I thought about quitting. Never have I wanted to. However, with as bad as this year has gone so far, I can say that I’ve thought about it. The optimism is gone. Maybe that will be just what I need to have a good week. The bad part is I need four of the best weeks even in succession. Tell me good luck. Please. I need it!
