England and Scotland face off once again in a World Cup qualifier on Friday night. The two sides have been playing against each other since 1872 and this match is actually considered the oldest in international soccer history. Scotland need the points more than England but both teams will be desperate to win this match so their supporters can have the bragging rights. These bitter rivals normally play out hotly contested, fiery and engaging affairs so spectators will be hoping for more of the same.
Scotland sit in fourth place in Group F while England are on top of the group. A win for Gordon Strachan’s side will put them back in contention for qualification but a loss would make progressing extremely difficult. Scotland have not been at a major tournament’s finals since the 1998 World Cup in France and they are desperate to put this right. England have looked uninspiring under interim manager Gareth Southgate after an unconvincing win over Malta and a fortunate draw with Slovenia. However, they are still heavy favorites to beat their arch rivals.
With England caught between managers and a little low in confidence this is the perfect time for Scotland to get a victory over the team they call the “Auld Enemy.” Scotland’s defense is shaky, though, so they will need to try and outscore England if they want to come away with all three points. Hopefully this match brings us goals, plenty of cards and some heated exchanges between players.

Sunderland keeper Jordan Pickford comes into the England team as Fraser Forster is injured. West Ham left back Aaron Cresswell has also received his first England call up.
Scotland are without fullbacks Kieran Tierney and Andrew Robertson so Lee Wallace should start. Robert Snodgrass is not at full fitness but he could start for Scotland. Meanwhile it’s likely that Leigh Griffiths will get the start ahead of Steven Fletcher, who has a knock.
