USA vs. Mexico live stream: watch World Cup Qualifying online
By Gary Pearson
USA host Mexico in Columbus, Ohio at the MAPFRE Stadium in a key CONCACAF World Cup qualifier. Here is all the info you need to watch.
In one of the recent great soccer rivalries, USA welcome Mexico to Ohio for only the second time. The US won the first match 2-0.
Friday’s match is the first game of the final qualification round for the 2018 World Cup.
Tim Howard will start in goal for the US and, even at 37 years of age, the experienced keeper can make all the difference. He’s positionally sound and is a boisterous leader. Howard plied his trade in the Premier League for years and is one of the most reliable keepers in the world.
The US will rely on Bobby Wood and Jozy Altidore up front. The loss of Clint Dempsey to an irregular heartbeat isn’t inconsequential but Altidore, with his power and guile, and Wood, with his breakneck pace and unrivaled endurance, are more than capable of carrying the load.
And then there’s Mexico.
The Mexicans are as experienced as they come. Only one player on the team has less than 10 games of international experience. Forward Javier “Chicharito” Hernandez is expected to start up front.
The former Manchester United poacher is lethal in front of goal, while Giovani dos Santos, Andres Guardado and an in-form Marco Fabian are all vying for starting spots.
Altidore and Wood have a big task on their hand against Mexico’s stalwart, center back Hector Moreno. He’s probably the first one on Juan Carlos Osario’s team sheet. The 28-year-old center back plies his trade for PSV Eindhoven. His vast international and club experience is matched only by his composure and defensive nous.
