With a fresh season ahead of them, the #14 Gonzaga Bulldogs start the 2016-2017 campaign at home against the Utah Valley Wolverines on Friday, November 11 at 9pm ET in the first game of the season for both teams. The 14th ranked Bulldogs look to continue their winning ways all the way to the Big Dance this year behind a strong team full of seasoned veterans and some new faces. A win on Friday means continuing a season home opener winning streak for head coach Mark Few, a streak that’s currently standing at 17 wins.
Friday’s game marks the first time the Utah Valley Wolverines will make the trip to Spokane to face the Bulldogs. The Wolverines finished 12-18 overall last season and ended up in 5th place in the Western Athletic Conference. Utah is a young team that only has two starters coming back for the 2016-2017 season. Utah Valley has been tabbed by WAC coaches in preseason polls to finish fourth in the conference.
Gonzaga has been picked to finish in 1st place in the West Coast Conference in the preseason coaches’ poll, marking the 16th straight season to receive the honor. The Bulldogs finished the 2015-2016 season tied for 1st place in the WCC with a 28-8 overall record that saw the team go all the way to the Sweet 16 in postseason play.
