UCF has come a long a long way under first year head coach Scott Frost after having gone winless last season.  At 5-4, The Knights could become bowl eligible if they beat the visiting Cincinnati Bearcats this Saturday, which would be a remarkable achievement considering last season’s debacle. The Knights defense has undergone a tremendous improvement his season, which is a bit surprising since former Oregon offensive coordinator Scott Frost was brought in to fix an offense in need of fixing. However, it is defensive coordinator Erik Chinander whose unit leads the American Conference in defense and is ranked 10th nationally in yards allowed per play.

It has been a disappointing year for Cincinnati (4-5) who are coming off a big loss at home to BYU. The Bearcats offense has struggled mightily in the last month, scoring only three points against BYU and unable to score more than 13 points in three of their last four games. On the offensive side the struggles start with former Notre Dame blue chip QB recruit Gunner Kiel who has failed to live up to his potential. Given the Bearcats record coach Tommy Tuberville is on the hot seat.

The Bearcats feature a lackluster roster and may well be in need of a revamp at season’s end.

In a tale of two programs heading in different directions, look for UCF to take advantage of the home field and come away on top Saturday at the end of a scrappy game.
