After dropping all three points at home against Mexico, the USMNT visits Costa Rica on Tuesday, November 15. Here’s all the info you need to watch.

The USMNT is heading into the lion’s den, also known as Saprissa Stadium, a place where their last positive result was a 1-1 tie dating all the way back to 1985. Aside from that result, we are looking at nine straight losses away to Costa Rica.

There is little reason for optimism after last Friday’s loss at home against Mexico, with the US looking uninspired from the start, as they lined up in an experimental 3-5-2 formation against their biggest foes in the region. Klinsmann’s unnecessary tinkering with formations should not be mistaken for tactical prowess, as described last week in this space.  Color me a skeptic, I don’t believe in Klinsmann’s ability to rally the troops anymore, especially not after a deflating loss such as the one in Columbus. To add even more insult to injury, the US will be without their number one goalkeeper, as Tim Howard sustained an injury against Mexico.  Brad Guzan will be replacing Howard in goal.

Costa Rica is coming home as leaders of the CONCACAF qualifying group (the”Hex”) following a 2-0 victory away to Trinidad and Tobago. Benefitting from a tremendous home support and historical home field advantage, Costa Rica will look to take advantage of a USMNT team in apparent disarray and take a big step in the World Cup qualifying race.  However, there are some notable injuries to the Ticos back line as center back Francisco Calvo is out injured, and right back Cristian Gamboa will miss the game through yellow card accumulation.
