NFL Mock Draft: Deshaun Watson falling
By Brad Weiss
Spencer Ware, Charcandrick West, Knile Davis. These are all running backs the Kansas City Chiefs have used to combat the loss of star Jamaal Charles. Initially expected to be back at full strength this season, it appears Charles is going to be gone for a long time, and his NFL career is actually in jeopardy. The organization needs to bring in their next great running back, and that player could be Christian McCaffrey.
Last season, McCaffrey was the star of the college football landscape. It seemed like he was scoring touchdowns on every play, as the Stanford Cardinal had one of the best years in the program’s history. However, he has struggled a bit this season, and will likely be done with his collegiate career after the next two games. McCaffrey has returned to his dominant self over the past few games, rushing for over 100 yards in each contest.
The Chiefs offense is based around a strong running game, and Alex Smith utilizing tight ends and backs in the passing game. McCaffrey would be a perfect fit for what head coach Andy Reid likes to do on offense, and would be a great pickup this late in the draft. His star power may make him an earlier pick, but if he is available late, the Chiefs have to grab him and make him their starting running back next season if Charles is done.
