NFL Mock Draft: Deshaun Watson falling
By Brad Weiss
San Diego’s defense looked very bad on Sunday, as the Miami Dolphins came into Qualcomm Stadium and put up a 31-spot against them. Sure, Philip Rivers did not help the cause by throwing four fourth quarter interceptions, but the front line for the Chargers is weak. They need to take a defensive lineman with their first round pick in April, and there are plenty to choose from.
One name we like a lot is Malik McDowell, who needs to get out of Michigan State as fast as he can. He is the only real threat on the Spartans defense, so in turn, he is always the focal point of the opposition. This has led to him being singled out on nearly every play, and it is starting to take a toll on him. He has had to leave a couple of games this season due to injury, though it should not affect his draft status.
The Chargers still have a ton of weapons on the offensive side of the ball, so grabbing a playmaker is not imminent at this point. Running back Melvin Gordon has established himself as a solid back, and Rivers is still one of the more productive arms in football. However, they cannot continue to bail out the defense, so the organization needs to fix that as quickly as possible.
