The Houston Texans are playing in Mexico this Monday night, but have been warned to stay in their hotel and stay away from room service.

The Houston Texans are getting an extra day to prepare this week, as they’re scheduled for a Monday night showdown in Mexico City against the Oakland Raiders. But it could end up being a bit of a boring trip for players, if they heed the warning giving to them this week.

When you go to Mexico, there’s historically been one major rule…don’t drink the water. Well, you can add a few things to the list now, according to USA TODAY. In a memo that was distributed to the team, there was some information and rules for them to follow while they’re visiting.

One of the major bullet points of the memo was “DO NOT leave the hotel.” It also advised against bringing “expensive jewelry” as well as not using ATM’s or carrying a lot of money with them.

The precautions given to the Texans are generally the same given to executives visiting the country, and they are warned not to leave the hotel without security.

The bit about avoiding room service is part of another memo that was released to the NFL earlier this year. A warning was issued to players regarding some types of meat produced in China and specifically Mexico that could be contaminated with clenbuterol, a banned steroid.

Consuming a large amount of these meats could result in a positive drug test for clenbuterol. The memo basically warns players to take caution in their meal choices, and to eat at their own discretion.

The Texans have their own problems on a regular basis, without unnecessary drug tests and security risks being added to the mix. Hopefully they’ll stay away from anything not bottled or served in the team room.
