The Florida Gators are heading back to the SEC Championship Game, but it was anything but easy

There was a time that we didn’t think that we would see the Florida Gators and LSU Tigers square off. Back in October, the game was postponed and rescheduled after much controversy between the two schools and the conference. Well, we did get the game on Saturday, and it held a little bit of significance for the Gators of Florida.

Coming into this one on Saturday the Gators were on the road in Baton Rouge needing to win this game, because a win on Saturday meant that they would be heading back to the SEC title game to take on the Alabama Crimson Tide. With time running down in the game, it looked as if those hopes would be dashed as LSU was threatening to come away with the win. Down 16-10, LSU was on the goal line and ready to steal the win.

The Florida defense needed to step up, and that’s exactly what they did. LSU pitched the ball to Derrius Guice and the Gators defense did all they could to keep him out of the end zone, securing their place as the 2016 SEC East Champions.

Now, while that was an outstanding effort from the Florida defense, you can’t ignore the fact that it appeared as if the LSU play call there was broken. Guice was sort of standing there like a statue and then he darted for the end zone. Something went awry there for LSU and it cost them dearly.

Still, nonetheless, the Gators are SEC Champions for the 2016 season and now they’ll go to Atlanta once again to take on the vaunted Crimson Tide of Alabama.
