Oklahoma jumped out on West Virginia early and often on Saturday night, and Jordan Evans continued to pour it on the Mountaineers for the Sooners with a pick-six.

Oklahoma is showing West Virginia no mercy on Saturday night in Morgantown.

The Sooners jumped out to a 21-0 lead in the first quarter and it only got worse for the Mountaineers, who trailed 34-7 at halftime.

As West Virginia looked to trim Oklahoma’s lead to 31-14 early in the third quarter, Jordan Evans ended any thoughts of a comeback with a pick-six for the Sooners defense.

Evans’ interception return made it 41-7 Sooners, and continued Oklahoma’s impressive night on the road prior to their Bedlam game with in-state rival Oklahoma State.

For the Sooners, Saturday night has gone as well as you could’ve hoped for.

As for the Mountaineers, you hope head coach Dana Holgorsen doesn’t actually lose his mind and what hair he has left in the beatdown the Sooners are handing his football team.

West Virginia had a slim chance of not only winning the Big XII, but making the College Football Playoff. Saturday night ended any opportunity they could’ve/would’ve had in the coming days.

On the other hand, Oklahoma is right in the thick of things if they can defeat the Cowboys next week. At 10-2 and on fire offensively, this could almost be a carbon copy of last year for the Sooners in terms of getting into the playoff. They suffered early setbacks, but bounced back and got in late.

Evans and the Sooners need some help from some other teams in unlikely scenarios, but Oklahoma isn’t completely out of it. It’s not looking like the Sooners will return to the playoff after losing to Clemson in the Orange Bowl semifinal on New Year’s Eve, but a New Year’s Six game is certainly on the table.
