The Madrid rivalry has been fierce as of late, with the two teams meeting in two of the last three Champions League finals, including last season’s final.  Real has come out on top in Europe, but on the domestic front, the story is a bit different as the Real, the bigger Madrid club by any standard, has not been able to defeat Atletico since April 2013.

To break that streak, Zinedine Zidane’s men will have to do deal with the intense adversity at the Vicente Calderon, one of the old-school stadiums of Europe where the home fans passion reaches volcanic levels. Zidane is dealing with some significant injuries to his squad following the international break, specifically among the forward line as Alvaro Morata is out injured and Karim Benzema is aiming to return to full fitness by Saturday’s kick off.

No significant injury concerns for Diego Simeone. We can expect more of the same scrappy, disciplined and physical style we’ve come to see from the Atleti men. Already six points back of league leaders Real, Simeone’s squad cannot afford a slip up, as a nine point difference would seem insurmountable. This is why I would expect Atletico to adopt their usual cautious approach, looking to break up the play and strike on the counters through world class strikers Antoine Griezmann and Kevin Gameiro.
